With latest release of Windows 8
Microsoft has changed Ownership options, and its little bit inflexible with
Windows 7 users. On windows 7 same options are available like previous versions
of windows. Just bit changes with screen and way to take control &
ownership for Files and Folders, but process still same for changing ownership.
Because owner tab is available on windows 7, Just need to click on edit , enter
the object name (Admin or your username) and click OK for changes. But on
windows 8 there is no Owner tab and its available on top. And taking the
ownership when need you confuse with windows 8, here I am going to tell you how
to take ownership for files & folders in windows 8 with simple steps.
Step 1
Right click on the file or folder
which you want to take ownership and go to “Properties”, then click on “Security”
tab.
Step 2
But here if you find message like “you
don’t have any permission to change it” don’t bother about that just take
ownership first. For that click on “Advance”, and Next. In next window click on
“Change” and enter the Object name and click on OK. Now notice that owner has
changed to your selected name.
Step 3
Just Click on “Replace owner on subcontainers and object” and click Apply.
It will give you warning message, don’t worry about message click on OK to
proceed. Now you need to click on “OK” again 2 times and the click on Advanced.
Step 4
Now below the Advanced permissions, you can see there is a change and
you will see the option “add Multiple Objects”. For addition of multiple object
and for inherit permission you have to click on “Change Permissions”. To
inherit permissions you should click on “Enable inheritance”. For adding a new
object need to click on “Add” and click on “Select a Principal” and type in the
object name. Now you can enable the Basic Permission. And if you want to enable
advance permission, click on “Show advance permission”. After completing
everything, click OK and close all Windows.
Now You are able to access that particular file or folder.
But careful
when you change the permission for System file or folder it may cause severe
damage to your system and compromise security. so please create a System
restore point first and then proceed with caution.
